'Sing For Victory!' - Sunday 13 July
On Sunday 13 July 2014, bel canto vocal ensemble La Nova Singers will commemorate the centenary of the First World War with their concert 'Sing for Victory!'. The concert will take place at 3.30 PM at The Kings Pavilion.
The all-female choir will perform classical music by composers of the Edwardian era, including Holst ('Summer'), Debussy ('Beau Soir') and Kodály ('Evening Song'). The concert will also feature nostalgic hits such as 'Pack Up Your Troubles', 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' and 'Danny Boy'; and will finish on a patriotic high note with Proms favourites like 'Jerusalem' and
'Land of Hope and Glory'.
Audience members will be treated to an afternoon cream tea on the green in the interval, courtesy of The Kings, whose celebrated restaurant was recently awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2014. A personal donation from the proceeds of this event will be made to Help For Heroes, the UK military charity.
Liz Carter, Events Co-Ordinator for La Nova Singers, said:
"As a choir, La Nova Singers were keen to do something to commemorate the start of the 1st World War and in memory of all those who lost their lives during the war. For this reason we wanted to put on a concert whereby a proportion of the ticket sales would go to the charity, 'Help For Heroes'.
"Having already partnered with Kings Arms Hotel before, we thought that this would be a prime opportunity to offer local people great food, in a great location, with top quality entertainment; whilst also supporting British servicemen and women who have to deal with the consequences of war in the present day.
"We hope that this event will be well supported for such a worthwhile charity."
Tickets are £25 including concert performance and cream tea.
